Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2015)

PG-13 | 2h 31min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi | 25 March 2016 (USA)

It’s a bird. No. It’s a plane. No. It’s Batman! I felt like there was such a huge hype for this movie. The two most well known superheroes in DC comics finally meet. It has been a few years since I watched this film. The movie was not great, but it was good. As a big fan of Superman, I would say that Batman seem the coolest in the movie. Especially when he prepares his new armor and gadgets against Superman. Now for the movie chat.

The wait is finally over. Batman and Superman are in a big screen together for the first time in real-life movie history. As a result, it is a let down compared to Man Of Steel. For one of the most anticipated film in my life, the film did not meet my expectation. From several exciting trailers, movie promotions and interviews at several Comic-Con, I was really looking forward to watch Batman v Superman. The focus of the film is all over the place. Like trying to fit in equally two superheroes in a single film, while not leaving the other characters out.

Lex Luthor played by Jesse Eisenberg, looks like he is out of place. Is it just me? I feel like he does not make a good villain or Lex Luthor. I believe Jesse Eisenber is better to play in the other roles. His performance seems to not flow with the character. What do you guys think?

A surprise appearance, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman joins the two most popular superheroes and taking some spotlight to star its own movie. Wonder Woman is one of  the most surprising superheroes in the comic book work because I never thought she was powerful. I always thought Wonder Woman was one of the weakest superheroes besides Batman. (No offence) After watching her fight, I was wrong for underestimating her. And, Gal Gadot did a great job as Wonder Woman and I look forward for the movie.

Ben Affleck as Batman for the first time. Love the voice of Batman. The beginning of the film was annoying with Batman hating on Superman for being seen as God. And, Batman was trying to pick a fight with Superman and  kill him. Until the part where Batman almost killed Superman, when Superman said his mother’s first name. BAM! They became friends.

Overall, it was an okay movie. The beginning was slow, but most of the fun part happened near the last part of the movie. I caught several mistakes the actors made in the movie. Won’t mention them because I don’t want to ruin your experience.

I will give Batman v Superman a 3/5 stars.

The Great Wall (2016)

PG-13 | 1h 43min | Action, Adventure, Fantasy | 17 February 2017 (USA)

Now it’s time to rewrite the history of China’s Great Wall. This movie looks like an ancient Chinese version of District 9. A war that is worth fighting against some monsters that I never heard of. Oh well. I really enjoy the visual effect, but I am still questioning about the overall plot of the movie. I believe that it will be a good film due to special effects and actions that the movie will bring. However, I believe the film may have a slight chance on being one of the best in 2017.

I understand where all the negative reviews come from, people calling it whitewashing because many of the criticisms are targeted toward the main lead being American. In the beginning of the film, it clearly stated that it is a fantasy movie based on the legend of The Great Wall. So, of course what happens in the movie has nothing to do with the original story. To me, these negative reviews are purely hate for this movie and can’t appreciate the work of the film. One question is, which Chinese actor would be best to lead The Great Wall?

The movie description sounded kind of vague and I wasn’t sure if I wanted to watch it. I am glad that I took a chance. The visuals are beautiful and the costumes are cool and colorful.  I am glad that most of the movie wasn’t filmed as dark screen like some of the popular superheroes. (Ahem. Batman v Superman).

It was fun to see Matt Damon still got some youth in him and is able to keep up doing physically demand roles. We may see Tom Cruise and Matt Damon in the same movie.

Overall, it was a great movie. Definitely recommend this movie for those who love action and fantasy movies, with a bit of romance and emotion. Well, it’s a fantasy war movie. Like Troy

Moana – Should I Watch It?

PG | 1h 47min | Animation, Adventure, Comedy | 23 November 2016 (USA)

Heard great news about the movie. Honestly, I never thought about watching Moana because some of my colleagues thought the film was too childish. I don’t know why, but, it cracks me up whenever Dwayne Johnson is in a Disney film. I really like the positive vibe that the movie gives me.

Well as expected, it has Disney music which is a good because it’s family friendly. After the movie you just can’t get the songs out of your head. Don’t blame me for not warning you.

Moana has a great beginning, good middle, and a great ending. Furthermore, the pacing of this movie is fast in a good way. It doesn’t hold on to a scene for too long and the movie knows when to cut.

The cinematography was stunning with Polynesian costumes and scenery. Especially the bright color animation accompanied by happy mood sing-along. Also, I was surprised Dwayne Johnson can keep up with the singing. I bet he took extra practice to perfect his singing. Really like Disney approach to movie making by remaking their old movies into real-life and 3D-animated movies, they are bringing in childhood nostalgia. As mentioned in the beginning Moana is a must see movie that won’t disappoint.

I will give Moana a score of 4/5 stars.
