PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN 5 (2017) – Trailer

A new Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales trailer revealing the entire plot and surprises of the movie.

Finally, Orlando Bloom as Will Turner will be in the movie, but he hasn’t reveal himself yet. Will Turner is one of my favorite characters and I hope to see more of him. I haven’t seen Orlando Bloom for nearly a decade, where was he all those years after his last appearance in Pirates of the Caribbean?  Let me surmise, he was taking a cruise around the Caribbean to take a break from Jack Sparrow.  Now, he decided to make a comeback to catch up with Jack Sparrow.

That’s it for my alternative plot of the movie. Can’t wait to watch it in theater by myself. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

PG-13 | 2h 13min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi | 16 December 2016 (USA)

May the force be with us all. Okay, let’s hope Disney won’t ruin Star Wars franchise. Woohoo, what a relief. I was satisfy that the first movie Disney brought us (Episode 7: The Force Awakens) was inspiring in capturing the essence of original star wars stories. This time, with Rogue One, director Gareth Edwards along with screenplay and story writers told one of the best stories of Star Wars series.

The story was tense and depressing. It offers some of the most notable underlying themes of original star wars such as troubled relationships with fathers; losing him early, searching for him, and finding him, but losing him again. Why?! In Rogue One, Felicity Jones plays Jyn Erso, who is the daughter of an empire scientist (Galen Erso), is an orphan who spent most of her childhood not trusting her father and abandoned by Forest Whitaker. That’s a rough life.

Hope is always the ultimate weapon of rebels to fight and resist against the dark force. This gives them the reason to fight and makes star wars believable even if the odds are overwhelming. Like in first Star Wars movies, rebels find their way out of impossible situations. Their hope always wins.

Disney made good casting to make the movie more fresh with addition of Donnie Yen and Wen Jiang. In his blind Chirrut Imwe role Donnie Yen brings choreographic martial arts style fighting to Star Wars and his strong ability to sense when things go wrong. He is my favorite character in the movie.

The movie does very good job in connecting to princess Leia and explains how she got the death star plans. The best part is of the film with the appearance of Darth Vader into the final battle scene annihilating everyone along his way to get the death star plan.

Rogue One was way beyond my expectation. That’s all what I can say about the film. At first, I thought it can’t rival the original Star Wars series, but I was wrong. The characters in the film are quite unique and interesting. The movie gives off a dark and lonely feeling where the main characters are struggling to survive and avoiding to be found by the dark force. I believe the film was better then some of the original Star Wars series. Well, can’t give too much detail of the film.  Will there be Rogue Two? For those who watched Rogue One, what do you guys think?

Beauty and the Beast (2017)

PG | 2h 9min | Family, Fantasy, Musical | 17 March 2017 (USA)

Finally a real life version of the movie is out. After over 20 years the release of the cartoon version, it has finally become life. Not a big fan of Disney movies, but the trailer looks amazing. I am surprised many people who watched the film really enjoyed the movie. Last time I checked, it was #1 movie in the world.

I was excited about the remake of Beauty and the Beast. The original is a classic and all of the hype surrounding this film make me raise my expectation. I might felt like I have already seen the movie because of the trailers. Also, since this movie is rated as PG, my taste in film may have changed overtime since when I was a kid. Anyways, I decided to watch it and not think about it later. Glad I made the decision.
Disney is setting the bar so high for future remakes, that I can’t wait to see what’s the next big movie. I am glad Disney closely followed the original Beauty and the Beast (1991), and brought some new contents. The new songs that were introduced were beautiful. Now, families can sing along with the movie. The controversy around a gay character which I don’t remember who is it in the movie was very subtle and I was not able to notice. Which part is it?The story also had a few little additions which made the characters and the story more believable. I left the movie theater wanting to go back and see it again. This film was that good.

Moana – Should I Watch It?

PG | 1h 47min | Animation, Adventure, Comedy | 23 November 2016 (USA)

Heard great news about the movie. Honestly, I never thought about watching Moana because some of my colleagues thought the film was too childish. I don’t know why, but, it cracks me up whenever Dwayne Johnson is in a Disney film. I really like the positive vibe that the movie gives me.

Well as expected, it has Disney music which is a good because it’s family friendly. After the movie you just can’t get the songs out of your head. Don’t blame me for not warning you.

Moana has a great beginning, good middle, and a great ending. Furthermore, the pacing of this movie is fast in a good way. It doesn’t hold on to a scene for too long and the movie knows when to cut.

The cinematography was stunning with Polynesian costumes and scenery. Especially the bright color animation accompanied by happy mood sing-along. Also, I was surprised Dwayne Johnson can keep up with the singing. I bet he took extra practice to perfect his singing. Really like Disney approach to movie making by remaking their old movies into real-life and 3D-animated movies, they are bringing in childhood nostalgia. As mentioned in the beginning Moana is a must see movie that won’t disappoint.

I will give Moana a score of 4/5 stars.
