Now it’s time to rewrite the history of China’s Great Wall. This movie looks like an ancient Chinese version of District 9. A war that is worth fighting against some monsters that I never heard of. Oh well. I really enjoy the visual effect, but I am still questioning about the overall plot of the movie. I believe that it will be a good film due to special effects and actions that the movie will bring. However, I believe the film may have a slight chance on being one of the best in 2017.
I understand where all the negative reviews come from, people calling it whitewashing because many of the criticisms are targeted toward the main lead being American. In the beginning of the film, it clearly stated that it is a fantasy movie based on the legend of The Great Wall. So, of course what happens in the movie has nothing to do with the original story. To me, these negative reviews are purely hate for this movie and can’t appreciate the work of the film. One question is, which Chinese actor would be best to lead The Great Wall?
The movie description sounded kind of vague and I wasn’t sure if I wanted to watch it. I am glad that I took a chance. The visuals are beautiful and the costumes are cool and colorful. I am glad that most of the movie wasn’t filmed as dark screen like some of the popular superheroes. (Ahem. Batman v Superman).
It was fun to see Matt Damon still got some youth in him and is able to keep up doing physically demand roles. We may see Tom Cruise and Matt Damon in the same movie.
Overall, it was a great movie. Definitely recommend this movie for those who love action and fantasy movies, with a bit of romance and emotion. Well, it’s a fantasy war movie. Like Troy?
